Tomorrow, if
you are a tourist in Ljubljana, and if you just happen to find yourself on the
outskirts of the city, you may stumble upon masses of hikers. It’s the annual “March along barbed wire”, event that commemorates occupation of Ljubljana in the
Second World War. The path encircles Ljubljana and tries to follow the rout of
the original wire fence that was constructed in 1942 by Italian occupation
forces.
You are welcome
to join in as the participation is free for everyone. The 35 km long hike has 8
stages. For those who are fit enough to complete all of the 8 checkpoints a special
medal and a badge is awarded. Passing across neighbourhoods, marshlands,
industrial zones, crossing river Ljubljanica twice and even climbing a small hill
Golovec the hike offers a relaxing atmosphere and a chance to experience
Ljubljana from a different point of view.
